Company Biography

From Studio A is produced by the staff of Thunder & Lighting Video Production. The new studio is located in Downtown Marquette in a refurbished automobile dealership. Cut from the former Service Department the facility boasts the largest independent production studio in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. It's main studio, Studio A, is supported by two digital non-linear editing suites and a voice recording sound booth.

 The facility produces broadcast commercials for airing on the local ABC, NBC and CBS affiliates as well as the areas digital cable provider, Charter Communications. Promotional videos, training products and event coverage are also produced and distributed on DVD, CD-ROM, Broadcast formats and internet web streams.

The technology Thunder & Lighting brings to the market is second only to the professional staff. The full-time staff is supported by top local independent cameramen, sound and lighting techs and on-air talents. Coordinating the best local talent and equipment is the job of Producer Dave Poirier and Director Ryan Bills.

Dave Poirier With twenty years of video production experience, a Bachelors Degree in Fine Arts with a concentration in Photography, six years as a touring sound and lighting director for a comedy troupe, two national awards for production excellence Dave Poirier is the driving force behind Thunder & Lighting Production. His work has been seen across the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and Northeast Wisconsin for two decades. It has appeared statewide, regionally and nationally on Prime Sports, Public Television (PBS), ESPN, ESPN II and Showtime Network. As a location cameraman his work in video segments has appeared on Bloomberg Financial Network, Showtime Network's SHOBOX, ESPN's Superbowl Sunday's GameDay, and on a pilot for the Sundance Channel.

As a director his work was featured for 3 seasons on the regional outdoors show Moore Outdoors. Airing in the Midwest on NBC affiliates, CBS affiliates and Pro Am Sport System the show took the host to locations across North America from the mountains and plains of the west to the Artic Circle. WCHA Division II College hockey games aired for two seasons on Wisconsin PBS stations and Midwest Sports. Each season featured 2-4 games produced and directed by Dave Poirier.

Broadcast commercials under his direction can be seen daily on NBC, ABC and CBS affiliates in Michigan and Northeast Wisconsin as well as the Milwaukee and Madison, Wisconsin markets.

He has been nationally recognized for production excellence by receiving a 2002 Telly Award. He was joined in these awards by programs produced by The History Channel, Discovery Channel and ESPN.

Last year his photography in a hospital pictorial was awarded a Marketing Excellence Award.

Ryan Bills

Ryan Bills is a 2005 Graduate of Northern Michigan University with a Bachelor’s degree in Media Production and New Technology. He brings 7 plus years of professional television experience to the team. From 2000-2004 he was camera operator then director for Charter Communications Cable productions of NCAA Division 1 Hockey, NCAA Division 2 Football and Basketball (Men’s and Women’s), and local High School Football and Basketball games. Ryan also spent three years at an NBC Television Affiliate in Marquette, MI. He quickly moved from entry level positions on camera to master control to becoming their full time Newscast Director/Technical Director.

Ryan has also worked as a Newscast Technical Director for Green Bay, Wisconsin's Fox Television Affiliate WLUK FOX 11.  In studio productions he filled the Technical Directors chair and in the field he was Camera Operator on the show “Inside the Huddle with Donald Driver”. As a Detroit Lions fan, he refers to his time in Green Bay as “A Blur of Green and Yellow.”

Ryan was added to the staff to direct all studio productions in the new studio. His experience in the 30 minute format of television news and his expertise and editing skill combine to make him the Thunder & Lighting Production's Ace-in-the-hole.
